Product Description

Product Description

The Low Profile Controlled Tooling Unsaturated Polyester Resin HS-243PTF is a premium filler-containing, pre-promoted resin engineered specifically for high-efficiency mold manufacturing. Designed to deliver exceptional glass fiber wettability and outstanding sagging resistance, this tooling resin ensures a smooth, highly controllable construction process for demanding industrial applications.

One of the most significant procurement advantages of the HS-243PTF series is its zero shrinkage characteristic. This crucial feature effectively minimizes glass fiber impressions, guaranteeing superior dimensional stability and a flawless surface finish for the final molds. Featuring a rapid curing speed and a stable exothermic peak temperature, this unsaturated polyester resin is the ideal solution for fast mold-making processes. By utilizing this advanced formulation, manufacturers can successfully complete molds within a single day, entirely replacing traditional, time-consuming week-long mold-making procedures. This dramatically reduces production downtime, lowers overall labor costs, and accelerates project delivery schedules.

Tooling Unsaturated Polyester Resin Application

Guidelines for Use

Proper application is essential for maximizing the lifespan and durability of the mold. Please follow these guidelines to ensure optimal performance:

  • It is highly recommended to use a mold gel coat of reliable product quality in conjunction with the tooling resin. A premium gel coat provides excellent mechanical strength, superior surface finish, and strong chemical resistance.

  • The mold gel coat should be applied in two careful coats. The first layer should be approximately 0.4 to 0.45 mm thick, achieving a total combined thickness of 0.6 to 0.8 mm for optimal protection.

Application of Mold Resin HS-243PTF Series

  • Thorough Mixing: Before use, strictly ensure the resin is thoroughly mixed using proper mechanical mixing equipment to maintain a uniform dispersion of all active components.

  • Curing Agent Ratio: To achieve the best curing results and optimal mechanical properties, the addition of the curing agent (M-50) should never be less than 1.2%.

  • Temperature Control: For the best performance of the mold resin, we strongly recommend using HS-243PTF at an ambient temperature between 18-25°C. Operating at temperatures that are too low, or applying layers less than 3 mm at a time, will negatively affect the resin's low shrinkage performance. Conversely, operating at temperatures that are too high will significantly shorten the gel time, potentially complicating the lay-up process.

Mold Manufacturing Reference Process

Following a standardized process ensures the reliable performance of the zero shrinkage tooling resin. Below is the recommended step-by-step procedure:

  • When the surface of the mold gel coat becomes tacky to the touch without leaving any residue on the hands, apply a uniform layer of the HS-243PTF mold resin directly onto the gel coat surface. This initial layer facilitates the subsequent impregnation of the surface mat.

  • Carefully lay one layer of 100 g/m2 surface mat, or two layers of 50 g/m2 surface mat. Utilize a dedicated de-bubbling roller designed for surface mats to thoroughly eliminate all trapped air bubbles.

  • Proceed to lay 6 layers of 300 g/m2 chopped strand mat to achieve a consolidated thickness of 3-4 mm. It is crucial to use a de-bubbling roller to remove air bubbles meticulously with each individual layer of mat applied.

  • After the tooling resin has sufficiently cured and the surface has completely turned white (indicating proper phase change), you can safely begin the next phase of the lay-up process approximately one hour later.

  • For the subsequent phase of lay-up, utilize 4 layers of 450 g/m2 chopped strand mat to achieve an additional thickness of about 3-4 mm. If the project demands higher mold strength requirements, a combination of mats or fabrics of similar thickness can be employed. Always use a de-bubbling roller to eliminate air bubbles with each layer applied, ensuring the resin turns white after curing.

  • Repeat the above lay-up steps systematically until the desired total layer thickness for the mold is reached.

  • After the entire lay-up process is complete, proceed with the construction and attachment of the necessary mold support and reinforcement structures.

  • Before final demolding, it is highly recommended to post-cure the mold at 40°C for 24 hours to achieve optimal mechanical properties and dimensional stability.

Attention and Storage

  • Selection: Choose the suitable resin model (G15, G30, or G50) according to specific process conditions, ambient temperatures, and technological requirements of your project.

  • Storage Conditions: Strictly avoid exposure to heat sources such as direct sunlight, steam pipes, or open flames. The resin must be stored in a well-ventilated, dry place at temperatures below 25℃. Under these recommended conditions, the shelf life is 6 months.

  • Moisture Prevention: Keep all containers tightly sealed to prevent moisture pick-up and monomer loss. Prolonged storage outside of the recommended temperature range or unsealed conditions can severely influence liquid resin properties, particularly altering viscosity and gel time.

  • Safety & Transport: Transportation must comply with the State Council “Chemistry Dangerous Articles Safety Management Regulations” or local equivalent safety standards. Because the formulation contains styrene monomer, it is classified as hazardous and inflammable. Handle with appropriate safety gear and precautions.
